UPSC Lateral Entry 2021: The Union Public Service Commission has issued a notification for recruitment through the lateral entry to the posts of Joint Secretary and Director. This recruitment has been taken for a total of 30 posts. Only unreserved candidates will be eligible to apply for this recruitment. SC, ST and OBC category candidates cannot apply. Objection is being raised from social media to Parliament on this recruitment notification. The last date to apply for recruitment to the said posts has been set as 22 March 2021.

With this lateral entry, professionals from the private sector are directly appointed to the level of Joint Secretary in various ministries. Such experienced and expert professionals from private sector can apply online for these posts. UPSC has taken out this recruitment on a three-year contract. It can be extended up to 5 years depending on performance.
eligibility criteria:
For the post of Joint Secretary Level
Experience – Minimum 15 years
The minimum age for the post of Joint Secretary has been fixed at 40 years and maximum 55 years.
Pay Scale – On selection to this post, candidates will be given a salary of about Rs. 2,21,000 as per 7th Pay Commission.

For director level position
Experience – Minimum 10 years
The minimum age for the post of director has been fixed at 35 years and maximum age is 45 years.
Pay Scale – According to 7th Pay Commission salary of about Rs. 1,82,000 will be given.
Educational Qualifications:

Selection Process
Candidates will be selected on the basis of interviews for the positions of Joint Secretary and Director. There will be no written test for this. Applications sent by candidates will be shortlisted for interview. He will then be called for an interview. Selection will be done on the basis of their performance in the interview. Candidates will have to bring all their original documents at the time of interview.
