8 Lakh Railway jobs:

Indian Railways will provide 8 lakh jobs within 125 days. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said in a tweet that under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, 8 lakh jobs will be provided for the railway infrastructure project within 125 days. This project is worth 1800 crores.

Due to the Covid epidemic across the country, many people have to lose their jobs, at such a time, the opportunity of employment of such a large number of jobs by the railways will be a golden opportunity for those unemployed youth. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, Railways will provide employment in 116 districts of a total of 6 states.

It is noteworthy that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan has been launched to empower a large number of returned migrant workers affected by the devastating COVID-19 and provide livelihood opportunities in those areas/villages. The Prime Minister has announced that under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, an amount of Rs 50,000 crore will be spent for the construction of sustainable rural infrastructure.

Under the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, about 1800 crore rupees will be spent in 116 districts of 6 states i.e. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. On 24 June 2020, the Railway Ministry has reviewed the progress of the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan through a video conference meeting.

Under the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, the Railways will provide employment under the following areas:

(i) Construction and maintenance of approach roads for level crossings,
(ii) Development and cleaning of dirty waterways, trenches, and drains along the track,
(iii) Construction and maintenance of approach road for railway stations,
(iv) Repair and widening of existing railway embankments/cuttings,
(v) Planting trees on the boundary of railway land and
(vi) Protection of existing embankments / cuttings / bridges.
