Indian Army will soon recruit about 14000 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs).

Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO) Recruitment 2021: Discussion is going on for the recruitment of about 14000 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO) in all the Arms Services of the Indian Army. According to this, the candidates will be directly appointed to the posts of Junior Commissioned Officers on the basis of written examination. The exam will be conducted by UPSC after which SSB will conduct the interview and medical examination.

The proposal states that the selected candidates will be trained as junior commissioned officers for a year and a half before joining the units. Then, they will be promoted as officers up to the rank of colonel on the basis of their service experience and qualifications.

According to reports, the proposal will be presented during the Army Commanders’ Conference which is likely to be held in May.
Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) are nominated as officers or promoted to officer positions based on their performance and examination. Currently, some officers are nominated as religious teachers and some as engineers in technical weapons.

Eligibility Criteria for Junior Commissioned Officer Posts:

Junior Commissioned Officer Catering (Army Service Corps): 10 + 2 or equivalent examination and diploma / certificate course of one year or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Tech from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute should be completed. . AICTE accreditation is not mandatory.
Junior Commissioned Officer Religious Teacher (All Weapons): The minimum educational qualification for appointment in this particular list of Junior Commissioned Officer (Religious Teacher) will be graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. Additionally, the candidate should have the following qualifications according to the religious denomination.
1. Pandit and Pandit (Gorkha) for Gorkha Regiment. Shastri with a one-year diploma in candidates ‘Karam Kand’ with Sanskrit (OR) Shastri in Sanskrit.
ii) Granthi: Sikh candidate with ‘Gyani’ in Punjabi.
iii) Maulvi and Maulvi (Shia) for Ladakh Scouts: Muslim candidates with Maulvi Alim in Arabic or Adeeb Alim in Urdu.
iv) Bodh Monk (Mahayana): Any candidate who has been appointed a monk / Buddhist priest by the appropriate authority. The term appropriate authority shall mean the head priest of that monastery. The head priest must be with a proper certificate from Geshe (PhD) or monastery of Khampa or Lopon or Rabjam.

Selection Criteria for JCOs:
Junior commissioned officers will be selected on the basis of their performance in written test followed by SSB interview and a medical examination.
